As a member of the CWU you and your dependents are entitled to Free Legal Assistance in the event of an Industrial Injury or an Injury outside of Working Hours. The Branch Secretary will lias with you and Simpson Millar our Solicitors in Bristol as well as help in all matters concerning the DHSS.
The various businesses that the CWU represents have Insurance Policies for their employees. The Branch will assist in this aspect also. The Post Office Operates Insurance for those permanently disabled called the PAIS. BT has an Insurance Policy known as CIGNA EUROPE this is to change this year to ZURICH. Through the Branch and the CWU Legal Services Department in London we will assist in all aspects of these schemes, including Medical Appeal Tribunals were disputes on percentage of disability arise.
As a CWU member whether actively employed or a retired Class C Member,
you have the right under the Trade Union Law Scheme to a free initial
consultation with a local Solicitor on any legal problem.
The Branch uses a firm of Solicitors called GOLDBERGS of Ford Park Road,
Mutley, Plymouth. The initial Consultation ONLY is FREE. All subsequent dealings
will be at your expense. This service is run by Mr Tomms, a very knowledgeable
solicitor and head of Goldbergs. Please present your CWU Membership card
as proof of identity. Mr Tomms can be contacted on 01752 660023. Please mention
you are a member of this Branch. This service has proved very useful and
the team at Goldbergs can deal with all matters from Consumer Disputes to
Property matters.
