Who We Represent

The Communication Workers Union represents all workers in the Royal Mail Group industries and Parcelforce in the Plymouth & East Cornwall Branch and throughout the United Kingdom.

Background Information

• 263,802 members nationwide (end of year 2003) - 163,551 Postal, Operator &Ancillary, 27,644 Clerical, 50,556 Engineering & PTS, 22,051 Retired
• 26 January 1995 - NCU & UCW merged to become the CWU
• The NCU represented mostly telecoms workers
• The UCW represented mostly postal workers
• The CWU is the seventh largest Union in UK, the largest Telecommunications Union in the UK and the second largest in Europe

National Executive Council

Elected yearly to carry out all CWU business between conferences. Annual Conference is held in June each year. A Rules Revision Conference occurs once every four years.
