The CWU and all the Businesses it represents are committed to equality in the workplace. This commitment is serious. You work because you have to earn a living and, as such, you should expect to come to work free from harassment and bullying. You also have a right to be treated equally with all other workers as far as promotion and opportunity is concerned.
If at any time you feel you are a victim of harassment or bullying from either work colleague or employer, please contact me at the Branch office on 01752 494473. Likewise, if you feel that you have been overlooked for promotion or treated less favourably than others, for whatever reason, I am here to help.
I have been trained by the CWU to deal with these issues directly or to give advice to representatives of the CWU on matters concerning Harassment, Disability, Discrimination or Equality. Everything you tell me is in the strictest confidence and I am not shocked by anything you may tell me; in fact the more I am told, the better the assistance I can provide.
Perhaps you have become disabled and need assistance to make your working environment more acceptable. In law, your employer must attempt to create reasonable adjustment if you are covered by the Disability Discrimination Act. Contact me for more details.
There are several approaches to different problems and it is you, the member, who will decide what is best for you. I can give advice or be a good listener. Sometimes other people not directly involved can see a solution to a problem unseen by those involved. There are formal methods for resolving difficulties and informal methods, both of equal validity.
